In 1920, Christopher Robin Milne was born, an event that was to change the history of children'sliterature. Milne was now well established as a witty and fashionable London playwright. It was as great a success there as it had been on the London stage. Pim Passes By, previously staged in London, was produced by theTheatre Guild in New York City. During his training period, he wrote his first play, Wurzel-Flummery, which was produced in London in 1917.īy 1919, having completed one book and several plays, Milne finally achieved financial independence. ![]() When World War I broke out, he enlisted in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, eventually serving in France. In 1913, Milne married Dorothy de Selincourt (known as Daphne) and moved to a house in London's Chelsea section. He remained at Punch for the next eight years. By 1906, he had been offered theposition of Assistant Editor at Punch, a classic British humor magazine. After graduating from Cambridge in 1903, Milne moved back to London with enough savings to live for one year. ![]() He went on toattend Cambridge University and became the editor of the undergraduate paper, Granta. All are tied to the paranormal, but none have experienced it with such intensity. With him come three people, the charismatic and colorful Theodora, Luke, the heir to Hill House, and Eleanor, an outcast who sees her time at Hill House as her first real adventure. Synopsis: Hill House is a blight that holds nothing but terror, or so the legends say. ![]() 6/29/2023 0 Comments Shakespeare king lear book![]() ![]() I say “curious” since when I was younger and had read King Lear no one in whatever class it was when I read the play in college had mentioned Alzheimer’s in relation to this play. Nonetheless, it was impressive and an curious read. It didn’t come to the high points for me that plays like Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and so many of the history plays. I must admit, I was suspecting to be more moved and delighted with my reading that I was. In this three year project to read one of Shakespeare’s plays each month, I had been saving King Lear until near the end as sort of a reward for reading a few of the weaker plays along the way. It has been more than 50 years since I first read King Lear.
